Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry (173 pages)

Summary

The wildest horse on Assateague Island is the Phantom. Nobody could nab or capture her. Pony Penning Day is when cowboys try to tag horses. Paul Beebe and his sister, Maureen, really want to capture the Phantom. They are very lucky to not only tag the Phantom but her newborn colt as well. Since they caught both, they have to pay for both. Do they have enough money to pay the fee?

Opinion

Even though this is a Newbery Honor book, I didn't particularly care for it. I found it to be slow and lacking in adventure. It was also confusing and loaded with details. If you decide to give this book a try, please write me a comment and let me know what you think.

President of the Whole Fifth Grade by Sherri Winston (273 pages)

A new girl arrives at her school and becomes her major competitor. Brianna starts to lose friends and eventually has no one to help her with her campaign. What will she do?

Opinion

I really thought the characters in this book were mean and unkind. I felt like Brianna was bossy and only interested in winning. Parts of this book were very confusing and loaded with unnecessary details. All in all, I really didn't care for this book and I don't recommend reading it.

Encanto by Disney Enterprises (136 pages)

 Summary

The Madrigals, a wonderful family, live in the mountains in a nice, charming town called Encanto. Everyone has a special power except Mirabel. When her family starts to lose their powers, Mirabel decides to help, even if it means going into her Uncle's creepy tower. Can she figure out what's going on before time runs out?

Opinion

I especially like this book because I'm half Columbian. I also saw the movie, Encanto. I think, in this instance, the book and the movie follow the same path. This book was definitely adventurous. The character, Mirabel, tries her best to fit in with the family, but nobody notices her efforts. The author makes the story very believable. I hope you will read this magical tale.

The Clue in the Crumbling Wall by Carolyn Keene (181 pages)

 Summary

Ten years ago, Juliana Johnson, a professional dancer, mysteriously disappeared after going on a vacation. Nancy Drew, the daughter of a lawyer, is asked to find her. She and her friends, Bess Marvin and George Fayne, go to Heath Castle, which Juliana is supposed to inherit in three weeks. Since Juliana is gone, Nancy has to find her or the Castle goes up for sale. Can Nancy and her friends find Juliana before it's too late?

Opinion

I especially like this book because it's a mystery. The storyline is really interesting and different. Most of the book is exciting and adventurous. This book has lots of details, but is still easy to understand. I like that the author has Nancy and her friends do some daring things in order to solve the case. If you like a good mystery, give this book a try and you'll be on the edge of your seat the whole time!
